ROCKIN' ROBIN
New Orleans | Dec. 31, 1973
Notre Dame led Alabama, 24-23, in the 1973 Sugar Bowl with 2:00 left when Tide coach Bear Bryant elected to punt the ball. Smart play: The 69-yard kick pinned the Irish at their goal line. Two plays gained only 2 yards. On third down, however, quarterback Tom Clements found backup tight end Robin Weber at the sideline for a 35-yard gain. Why was he open? It was his second catch of the season.
