Players accused of burning SUV

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Two University of Memphis football players
are accused of burning a sport utility vehicle in a rural area of
Shelby County.

Derron Parquet, 22, and LaVale Washington, 21, were charged with
arson after a witness reported seeing a young man run from a field
where a 2001 GMC Yukon was destroyed, sheriff's spokesman Steve
Shular said.

Authorities said the vehicle is registered to Parquet's father,
Stanley Parquet of Kenner, La.

University spokesman Bob Winn said the school would have no
comment on the arrests.

"The university's standard policy is we will make no comment on
legal matters that are still under investigation," Winn said

The players were arrested Friday night and released on $3,000
bond each. Shular said a motive for the fire was under

Parquet is a a senior tailback. Washington, from New Orleans, is
a junior defensive tackle.

Parquet rushed for 487 yards on 95 carries as a redshirt junior
last season, while Washington had 29 tackles and two sacks.
