Georgia Southern to hire Hatcher as next head coach

Valdosta State coach Chris Hatcher will be introduced Thursday as the next head coach at Division I-AA Georgia Southern, sources said.

Hatcher has a 76-12 record in seven seasons at Valdosta State (Georgia) and led the team to the 2004 Division II national championship. He also coached Daunte Culpepper at Central Florida and Tim Couch at Kentucky as an assistant.

Hatcher interviewed at Georgia Southern in 2005 before former coach Brian Van Gorder was hired.
Van Gorder resigned after one season to become linebackers coach of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons.

Georgia Southern, long a Division I-AA powerhouse, went 3-8 this season.
