BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Arkansas tailback Darren McFadden, whose
321 rushing yards against South Carolina tied the Southeastern
Conference record, was named league offensive player of the week
for his performance on Monday.
LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey won defensive player of the
week while Alabama return man Javier Arenas claimed special teams
McFadden had 34 carries in a 48-36 win over No. 23 South
Carolina, rushing for a touchdown and passing for another.
The 321 yards are the most ever by an individual in an SEC game
and the second-highest rushing output this season by an NCAA
McFadden racked up a total of 355 all-purpose yards, breaking
his own Arkansas record of 315 yards set last season against South
He leads the SEC in rushing this season and is currently fifth
on the SEC career rushing yardage charts.
Also Monday, the NCAA confirmed that McFadden and
set a record for most combined rushing yards by teammates in a
single game. The tandem's combined 487 yards against South Carolina
set a Football Bowl Subdivision -- formerly Division I-A -- record.
Dorsey led LSU with seven tackles in No. 2 LSU's 41-34 victory
over the Crimson Tide and helped the Tigers limit Alabama to 20
yards rushing. He had one sack and another tackle for loss,
recording two quarterback hurries and batting down a pass at the
line of scrimmage on Alabama's final possession of the game.
Arenas gave the Crimson Tide a 34-27 lead in the fourth quarter
with a 61-yard punt return for a touchdown.
He finished the game with 237 total yards on kick and punt
returns and made his first start at defensive back.
The offensive lineman of the week was Arkansas guard
Mitch Petrus and Florida defensive end Jermaine Cunningham won defensive
Georgia tailback Knowshon Moreno was the freshman of the week
after rushing for a career-high 196 yards and three touchdowns in a
44-34 win over Troy.
