Jan. 1, 1953: Alabama 61, Syracuse 6
The Orange Bowl was nationally televised by CBS for the first time.
Jan. 1, 1965: Texas 21, Alabama 17
Tthe national title used to be awarded before the bowl game and top-ranked Alabama received it before losing in the Orange Bowl. Joe Namath was stopped on a QB sneak on fourth-and-goal near the end of the game. It also marked the first time that the Orange Bowl was on prime time.
Jan. 14, 1968: Super Bowl II (Packers 33, Raiders 14)
It's the final game of Packers head coach Vince Lombardi's career in Green Bay, and it was also the team's third straight NFL championship.
Jan. 12, 1969: Super Bowl III (Jets 16, Colts 7)
The Jets' monumental upset of the highly-favored Colts backed up Joe Namath's guarantee, ranking as one of the most important games in pro football history as it helped solidify the merger.
Jan 1, 1971: Orange Bowl Classic (Nebraska 17, LSU 12)
Nebraska won the national title on a fourth-and-1 QB sneak late in the fourth quarter.
Jan. 17, 1971: Super Bowl V (Colts 16, Cowboys 13)
Colts PK Jim O'Brien kicked a 32-yard field goal with :05 seconds to play to give the Colts a win over the Cowboys. It was a sloppy game which saw Baltimore (seven) and Dallas (four) combine for 11 turnovers. It's often referred to as the "Blunder Bowl."
November 27, 1971: Florida 45, Miami 16
Famous 'Florida Flop.' Florida defenders laid down and let the Hurricanes score, which allowed the Gators to get the ball back and quarterback John Reaves to break Jim Plunkett's record for NCAA career passing yards.
Jan 1, 1975: Orange Bowl Classic (Notre Dame 13, Alabama 11)
Ninth-ranked Notre Dame upsets top-ranked Alabama to end the Tide's national title hopes.
Sept. 22, 1975: Raiders 31, Dolphins 21
It was the first game of the season and a rematch of the two teams stirring playoff battle from the previous year so revenge was certainly on the mind of the determined Dolphins. But it would be all Raiders this evening as Oakland jumped out to a quick 17-0 lead and was never threatened. The win snapped Miami's record 31-game winning streak (including playoffs) at the Orange Bowl.
Jan. 18, 1976: Super Bowl X (Steelers 21, Cowboys 17)
Steelers WR Lynn Swann pulled down four passes for 161 yards, including the game-winning 64-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, but his amazing 53-yard catch in the second quarter is unforgettable. Steelers QB Terry Bradshaw threw deep down the middle to Swann, who leaped over Cowboys CB Mark Washington. Both men fell to the Orange Bowl ground, but Swann kept his concentration and pulled down the ball just before hitting the turf.
Jan. 21, 1979: Super Bowl XIII (Steelers 35, Cowboys 31)
The first rematch in Super Bowl history would mean an unprecedented three Super Bowl titles. Each team's roster and coaching staff was filled with future Hall of Famers. Steelers QB Terry Bradshaw starred with wide receivers Lynn Swann and John Stallworth, but who could forget brash Cowboys LB "Hollywood" Henderson or teammate Jackie Smith's dropped TD pass?
Jan. 1, 1982: Orange Bowl Classic (Clemson 22, Nebraska 15)
It was the first of four national championships in the 1980s for the Orange Bowl as Clemson knocked off powerhouse Nebraska. William "soon to be Fridge" Perry holds down the Huskers' offense.
Jan. 2, 1982: 1981 AFC Divisional Playoffs (Chargers 41, Dolphins 38 (OT)
Called by some the best game in NFL history, many forget that the Chargers actually owned a 24-0 first-quarter lead before their shaky defense let Miami get back in the game. Both Dan Fouts and Don Strock (replacing an ineffective David Woodley) threw for 400-plus yards, and Chargers PK Rolf Benirschke's 29-yard field goal late in overtime saved it for San Diego. The sight of TE Kellen Winslow being helped off the Orange Bowl field by teammates after the game is etched in our memories. And Winslow had good reason to be exhausted. He amassing 166 yards and a score on 13 catches (an NFL postseason record since tied), and blocked a field goal with four seconds left to force overtime, where the Chargers prevailed.
Jan. 2, 1984: Orange Bowl Classic (Miami 31, Nebraska 30)
Miami won its first national championship, beating Nebraska 31-30. Nebraska was stopped on a two-point conversion when Ken Calhoun deflected Turner Gill's pass.
Nov. 23, 1984: Boston College 47, Miami 45
Doug Flutie's Hail Mary defeated the Hurricanes.
Nov. 30, 1985: Miami 58, Notre Dame 7
Miami beat Notre Dame 58-7, marking the worst loss in Fighting Irish football history.
Dec. 2, 1985: Dolphins 38, Bears 24
Mike Ditka's Bears ended the season as Super Bowl XX champions, and they entered this game at 12-0. Chicago battled a Dolphins squad (with members of the '72 team in attendance looking to keep their place in history intact) determined to stymie the Bears' attempt at a perfect season.
Jan 1, 1988: Orange Bowl Classic (Miami 20, Oklahoma 14)
The Hurricanes won their second national title with a 20-14 win over Oklahoma in Orange Bowl.
Sept 3, 1988: Miami 31, Florida State 0
Miami shut out preseason No. 1 FSU 31-0. The Noles had their rap song with Deion, etc.
Nov. 25, 1989: Miami 27, Notre Dame 10
The Canes stopped defending national champion Notre Dame's win streak at 23. The game was remembered for the 3rd-and-44 completion (Randal Hill) to keep an 18-play, third quarter drive going. It was sealed with a TD pass to Dale Dawkins.
Jan. 1, 1991: Orange Bowl Classic (Colorado 10, Notre Dame 9)
A year after losing a national title to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl, the Buffaloes hang on in one of the most exciting and controversial finishes in Orange Bowl history. Colorado led 10-9, before Irish speedster Rocket Ismail took a punt back 91 yards for a TD with 43 seconds left. The play was nullified by a clip some saw and some didn't.
Oct. 3, 1992: Miami 19, Florida State 16
Miami beats Florida State 19-16 in a game memorable for two reasons. Linebacker Michael Barrow's hit on Tamarick Vanover on a failed wide receiver screen pass is still unforgettable. And at the end, Florida State's Dan Mowrey missed a 39-yard field goal that would have tied the game, a mistake that is still known as "Wide Right II."
Jan. 1, 1994: Orange Bowl Classic (Florida State 18, Nebraska 16)
It's Bobby Bowden's first national title, and it marked the 11th time in college football history that the No. 1 and 2 teams met in bowl game. FSU, which had lost multiple chances at national titles on missed FGs, gets a 22-yd FG from freshman Scott Bentley with 22 seconds left for the go-ahead points. Nebraska wasn't done, however. It drove down the field before missing a 45-yd FG.
Sept. 3, 1994: Miami 56, Georgia Southern 0
Miami set the NCAA record with its 58th straight home win -- a 56-0 over Georgia Southern.
Jan 1, 1996: Orange Bowl Classic (Florida State 31, Notre Dame 26)
The last "scheduled" Orange Bowl classic in the Orange Bowl. The game was moved to Dolphin Stadium the following season.
Dec. 5, 1998: Miami 49, UCLA 45
The day the program was "reborn" from probation. Miami knocked UCLA out of the title game with 49-45 win as Edgerrin James ran for 299 yards.
Jan. 2, 1999: Orange Bowl Classic returns (Florida 31, Syracuse 10)
The Orange Bowl Classic made a curtain call appearance due to a Dolphins home playoff game with a matchup of two teams who hadn't been in the Orange Bowl in years. The Gators last played there in 1967, while Syracuse went back to 1959. It marked Donovan McNabb's final college game.
Oct. 7, 2000: Miami 27, Florida State 24
Ken Dorsey finds Jeremy Shockey with a 13-yard touchdown pass in the final minute, lifting Miami past No. 1 Florida State 27-24. FSU misses a FG at the gun which would have tied it. Dan Morgan's pick in the game was also memorable. Santana Moss' "big-time players" quote was on the field after this game.
Sept 6, 2003: Miami 38, Florida 33
Miami rallied from 23 points down in the final 21 minutes to beat Florida as Devin Hester returned opening kickoff for a TD.
Oct. 14, 2004: Miami 41, Louisville 38
Brock Berlin threw for 308 yards, including 215 after halftime, and directed the winning drive in the final minute. Devin Hester scored on a 78-yard punt return as Miami rallied from 17 points down.

Yes, it was a bad moment, but it certainly was memorable in the Orange Bowl's history.
