Maryland defensive coordinator Chris Cosh will return to Kansas State as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator, Maryland athletics director Debbie Yow confirmed Friday.
Cosh, who finished his third season as the Terps' defensive coordinator, spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons as linebackers coach at K-State, where Bill Snyder recently took over as head coach.
Maryland's defense had been inconsistent all season. The Terps allowed Virginia Tech running back Darren Evans a school-record 253 yards on Nov. 6, but stifled Clemson's playmakers in the second half of a 20-17 win at Death Valley on Sept. 27.
Cosh is a native of Washington, D.C., and graduated from Bishop McNamara in Forestville, Md.
He coached the Maryland linebackers in 1997 and was also the Terps recruiting coordinator. His second stint with the Terps was somewhat turbulent, as he often faced criticism from the Maryland fan base.
Maryland finished the regular season ninth in the ACC in total defense (355 yards per game), 10th in rushing defense (149.4 yards per game), and eighth in scoring defense (21.4 points per game).
