Ohio State freshman offensive lineman Mike Adams had a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia dismissed Monday in Franklin County Court.
Adams and Buckeyes teammate J.B. Shugarts, another freshman offensive lineman, faced the charge after police found a pipe in their car during a traffic stop Jan. 14 in Columbus. Both men pleaded not guilty.
Garth Cox, the attorney representing Adams, said lab tests on the pipe revealed no controlled substances. Adams also voluntarily submitted to a drug test that came back negative. He will be required to pay a fine for running a stop sign.
"We had a snowstorm that day and he went through a stop sign, and that's why the officer stopped him initially," Cox told ESPN.com. "The stop-sign violation, he's paying that, but the drug paraphernalia charge was dismissed for insufficient evidence."
Shugarts has a pretrial hearing scheduled for Wednesday. Cox, who is also representing Shugarts, said Shugarts voluntarily took a drug test and passed.
Cox expects the possession of drug paraphernalia charge against Shugarts to be dismissed.
Both Adams and Shugarts are expected to compete for starting spots on Ohio State's offensive line when spring practice begins April 2.
