Former Duke point guard Greg Paulus will announce in a 10 a.m. ET teleconference on Thursday he plans to play college football next fall, ESPN's Joe Schad reported.
Paulus is expected to play for Syracuse, according to sources. He also visited Nebraska.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Paulus, a standout high school quarterback, would fit into new Syracuse coach Doug Marrone's pro-style offense. Redshirt freshman quarterback Ryan Nassib has been tabbed as the Orange's starter, but Paulus could be the perfect bridge in a one-season homecoming.
Because Paulus did not redshirt for the Duke basketball team, he has one year of eligibility remaining in another sport. And because he will complete his degree in four years, he can go to graduate school elsewhere and compete immediately if granted a special waiver from the NCAA.
Paulus, a former two-sport high school All-American, was a prolific passer at Christian Brothers Academy, near Syracuse, where he threw for 11,763 yards and 152 touchdowns in high school.
If Syracuse becomes his second college destination, Paulus is considering studying for a master's degree in communications.
