Source: OSU's Moeller likely out for '09

Tyler Moeller, the Ohio State Buckeyes' likely 2009 starter at outside linebacker, is expected to miss the season after suffering a serious head injury last month, ESPN's Joe Schad confirmed Monday with a person close to the program.

A source close to the Ohio State program told ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg that Moeller, 21, has been released from Ohio State University Medical Center, is home in Cincinnati and is doing "extremely well."

The source said he suffered the injury in Florida at a bar/restaurant. Moeller was with family members when he was punched and hit his head. Moeller did not provoke his attacker, according to the source.

Moeller was not immediately hospitalized after the incident. He had a seizure last Thursday during a team activity and was admitted to the hospital, where he underwent a procedure this weekend to the relieve swelling on his brain.

The source told Rittenberg that Moeller's attacker has been identified and likely faces charges.

There had been conflicting reports about how and where Moeller was injured.

Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel is scheduled to address the media on Tuesday, at which time further details of the incident may be disclosed.

Moeller, a fourth-year junior, started the final two regular-season games last season. He recorded 18 tackles (three for a loss) in 2008.

He was expected to replace Marcus Freeman at strong-side linebacker for the Buckeyes, ranked sixth in the USA Today preseason coaches' poll released last week.

Moeller has made 26 tackles in 23 games for the Buckeyes after arriving at Ohio State with high accolades. As a senior in high school, Moeller earned Ohio's Division I Defensive Player of the Year honors.
