Georgia: Cox still on target to start

Senior quarterback Joe Cox will start against South Carolina on Saturday, the associated athletic director and offensive coordinator told media outlets on Thursday.

Associate athletic director Claude Felton, who said he spoke with coach Mark Richt after a staff meeting, told the Athens Banner-Herald that Cox would start.

And offensive coordinator Mike Bobo texted the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "Joe is the starter."

Earlier Thursday, a person close to sophomore quarterback Logan Gray told ESPN's Joe Schad that Gray was expected to start due to an arm issue that limited Cox's repetitions this week.

Georgia coaches have said they may try to work Gray's athletic abilities into the game plan moving forward.

Gray, 6-feet-2, 192 pounds, is a versatile athlete who has even been used as a punt returner. Georgia also has two freshman quarterbacks on its roster.

Gray was an All-State football and basketball player at Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Mo., and had a chance to play Division I basketball at schools like Creighton and Drake.

Joe Schad is a college football reporter for ESPN.
