Texas Tech has agreed to one-year extension through 2015 with coach Tommy Tuberville, the school announced Tuesday.
The extension also includes an increase -- from $1.5 million to $2 million -- in Tuberville's annual salary.
"I am grateful to the university for believing in our vision for this football program and I am thrilled to be a Red Raider," Tuberville said in a statement. "My family and myself have been embraced warmly by this community and all of Red Raider Nation and I believe that unity was a major contributor in us winning eight games the first year along with a bowl championship."
In his first season as the Red Raiders' head coach, Tuberville guided the Red Raiders to an 8-5 record and a 45-38 victory over Northwestern in the TicketCity Bowl, becoming the first coach in school history to win a bowl game in his first season.
"Coach Tuberville has done a great job of representing Texas Tech and we believe he is the right person to lead our football program," said athletics director Gerald Myers. "We share the same goals of graduating student-athletes and running a program with integrity. ... We are very excited for the future."
