TEXAS A&M 28, UTAH 26

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) -- Courtney Lewis rushed for

100 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries as Texas A&M held on for

a 28-26 victory over Utah.

Lewis' 28-yard TD run gave the Aggies (2-0) a 28-13 lead with

13:07 remaining before the Utes (1-1) scored twice in the final

six minutes.

Utah closed to 28-26 on Brett Elliott's 45-yard TD pass to John

Madsen with eight seconds left, but Elliot was stopped short on

the two-point conversion attempt.

Reggie McNeal completed 12-of-18 passes for 145 yards for Texas

A&M, which opened a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on Terren

Murphy's 80-yard scamper and Keith Joseph's one-yard plunge.

The Aggies increased their lead to 21-0 on McNeal's four-yard TD

to toss to Quin Germany with 10:41 left in the first half.

The Aggies overcame a strong effort by Utah's Brand Warfield,

who ran for 181 yards on 36 carries. Warfield's one-yard run

pulled the Utes within 28-20 with 6:13 to go.

The teams were facing each other for the first time since 1936,

when Texas A&M posted a 20-7 victory in the only previous

meeting.

First-year Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione improved to 4-3 in

his career against Utah.
