Lafayette 23, Lehigh 19

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) -- Backup quarterback Pat Davis came off the

bench Saturday and tossed a pair of touchdown passes -- including

the game-winner in the final minute -- to lead Lafayette to a 23-19

win over Lehigh in the 141st meeting between the two schools.

With the Leopards facing fourth-and-10, Davis threw a 37-yard

touchdown pass to Jonathan Hurt with 38 seconds left to give

Lafayette its 74th win in the series. Davis, playing in relief of

injured starter Brad Maurer, drove the Leopards (8-3, 5-1 Patriot

League) 88 yards in just 1:26 for the winning score.

Davis opened the scoring with a 5-yard TD pass to Archie Fisher,

but Lehigh (8-3, 4-2) used four field goals by Jason Leo and a

79-yard touchdown pass by Sedale Threatt to take a 19-10 lead with

10:25 left in the final quarter.

The Leopards responded with a 65-yard drive capped by a 1-yard

plunge by Hurt that cut the margin to 19-17. Lafayette recovered a

fumble on the ensuing possession, but turned the ball over on

downs. Lehigh had a chance to run out the clock, but Lafayette

forced a punt to set up the game-winning drive.

Davis finished 15-for-36 for 178 yards and threw two

interceptions to go along with his two TD passes. Hurt carried 18

times for 125 yards to lead all rushers and Rick Ziska booted a

45-yard field goal for the Leopards in the second quarter.

Maurer left on Lafayette's first series with a separated

shoulder.

Threatt threw for 232 yards and tossed the long scoring pass to

Gerran Walker.

Lafayette now holds a 74-62-5 edge in the series.
