HEMPSTEAD, NY (AP)Liam Coen threw two of his four touchdown passes to J.P. Moore, and Massachusetts defeated Hofstra 27-5 Saturday.
Coen finished 22-for-34 for 309 yards with two interceptions for the Minutemen (9-2, 7-1), who have clinched a berth in the Championship Subdivision playoffs.
Moore had 11 catches for 155 yards, including touchdowns of 7 and 42 yards, while Matt Lawrence was the leading rusher with 101 yards on 25 carries.
UMass jumped out to the early lead on Coen's 7-yard TD pass to Moore at 10:29 of the first quarter. Coen followed with a 35-yard TD strike to Rasheed Rancher at 11:16 of the second quarter to make it 14-0.
Bryan Savage, was 21-for-34 with one interception for 129 yards for the Pride (7-4, 4-4), who have lost four of five.
Rob Zarrilli's 27-yard field goal for the Pride at 9:05 of the second quarter made it 14-3.
Moore's second came at 9:25 in the fourth quarter, and Coen then connected on a 10-yard pass to Ian Jorgensen at 2:34 to go ahead 26-3.
On the ensuing point after attempt, Dewayne Whitaker blocked the extra point and ran the length of the field for Hofstra's final two points.
