WASHINGTON -- Gunther Johnson ran for two touchdowns and threw for one, Joshua Thomas caught a touchdown pass and scored on a run and Georgetown cashed in on turnovers to beat Marist 43-3 in its home opener on Saturday.
Herman Moultrie III gained 103 yards on 20 carries as the Hoyas amassed 424 total yards to Marist's 244. The Hoyas converted two-of-four turnovers -- a fumble and an interception -- into scores.
Johnson opened the scoring on a 17-yard run before Thomas caught a 14-yard TD pass from Joseph Burnell, then scored on a 1-yard run to make it 22-3 at halftime. The Hoyas scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter on Johnson's 32-yard run, Moultrie's 1-yard run and Johnson's 30-yard pass to Michael Dereus.
Day was 12 of 19 for 149 yards for Marist, which scored on Luke Paladino's 36-yard field goal in the second quarter.
