Nice drive by Brock Purdy and Iowa State to reclaim the lead. Like Nate Stanley, Purdy has has had to settle for short to medium gains other than the 73-yard touchdown. But he has been steady in and out of the pocket. Good red zone defense by Iowa there.

Third down has been the money down for Iowa and QB Nate Stanley, who finally reach the end zone to reclaim the lead with 12:10 to play. Iowa has converted 9 of 15 third-down opportunities. Stanley showed good mobility on the drive, converting third-and-11 on a well-designed run to the right.

Iowa converts the Brock Purdy fumble into a field goal and trails 7-6 after a first half that featured two lightning delays totaling nearly three hours. The Hawkeyes ran 15 more plays than Iowa State but struggled to stretch the field against a very active Cyclone defense. Purdy completed 12 of 13 passes for 86 yards in the half.

An impressive opening drive for Iowa, which converted three third downs behind QB Nathan Stanley, who made very good decisions in the pocket. Iowa State's defense gets a much-needed stop, and the Hawkeyes must feel unfulfilled after getting only a field goal out of a drive that ate up half of the first quarter.
