TE Jake Butt out with torn ACL

Michigan sophomore tight end Jake Butt is out indefinitely after tearing his ACL during winter conditioning, the school announced Thursday.

Butt ranked third on the Wolverines in receptions (20), receiving yards (235) and receiving touchdowns (two) last season, and he had five receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown in the regular-season finale against Ohio State.

There's no word from the school on when Butt, a native of Columbus, Ohio, will undergo surgery to repair the ACL. He's projected as Michigan's No. 2 tight end behind Devin Funchess, who recorded 49 receptions for 748 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Michigan coach Brady Hoke said in a release that Butt "will be back as soon as he can and as strong as ever." The Wolverines open spring practice Feb. 25.
