Terrel Hunt out 4-6 weeks

Syracuse starting quarterback Terrel Hunt is out four to six weeks with a broken fibula, and coach Scott Shafer has stripped offensive coordinator George McDonald of his duties, the school announced Monday.

Hunt was injured late in a 28-6 loss to Louisville last Friday night. Austin Wilson has served as the backup and becomes the favorite to start Saturday against the No. 1 Florida State Seminoles.

Even with Hunt in the lineup, the Syracuse offense has struggled with consistency and red zone issues all season. Despite returning eight starters, the Orange (2-3) rank No. 13 in the ACC in scoring offense and have managed just 21 points in their past two games against Notre Dame and Louisville.

Quarterbacks coach Tim Lester will now serve as offensive coordinator.

"He, George and the offensive staff will continue to work alongside one another striving to improve our offense together," Shafer said in a statement. "George will continue to coach our receiver unit. Tim will take charge of the play calling and the development of our young quarterbacks as we move forward without Terrel Hunt as he works to rehab his injury.

"We are committed and unified to take the actions necessary to maximize the talent and drive of this football team."
