James Onwualu to sit Saturday with knee injury

Notre Dame starting linebacker James Onwualu will miss Saturday's game against Boston College at Fenway Park because of a second-degree MCL sprain in his left knee, coach Brian Kelly said Sunday.

Kelly also said that freshman reserve receiver Equanimeous St. Brown will miss six weeks due to a Grade 3 AC sprain in his right shoulder that will require surgery.

Onwualu, a two-year starter at outside linebacker, left during the first quarter of Saturday's 28-7 win over Wake Forest and was on crutches for most of the day. He will not need surgery. The junior has 36 total tackles, including five for loss and two sacks, and one forced fumble this season.

St. Brown, a true freshman, suffered his injury during practice last week and missed Saturday's game. He has one catch for 8 yards, along with a blocked punt.

Kelly also said running back C.J. Prosise, defensive lineman Daniel Cage and tight end Nic Weishar -- all of whom missed Saturday's game with concussions -- are probable to play against the Eagles.
