Houston QB Greg Ward Jr. expected to practice by Wednesday

Houston quarterback Greg Ward Jr., who missed Sunday's practice because of an injury to his throwing shoulder, had an MRI that showed "no structural damage," coach Tom Herman said Monday.

Herman said Ward "felt a lot better" on Monday and is expected to return to practice by Wednesday at the latest. The coach left open the possibility that Ward would practice Tuesday.

On Saturday, Ward led No. 15 Houston to a 33-23 win over No. 3 Oklahoma at NRG Stadium by throwing for 321 yards and two touchdowns.

The senior is 20-2 as a starting quarterback in his Houston career. He has led the Cougars to five consecutive wins over Associated Press Top 25 teams, the third-longest streak in the nation behind Alabama and Stanford.

Houston hosts Lamar on Saturday at TDECU Stadium.
