Career over for Oklahoma starting LB Tay Evans (concussions)

The career of Oklahoma starting linebacker Tay Evans is over because of concussions, coach Bob Stoops announced Monday.

"We want the best for him moving forward in his life, first and foremost," Stoops said.

Evans, a redshirt sophomore, started the Sooners' first three games, tying a career high with five tackles in Week 3 against Ohio State. But Evans sat out the game Saturday against TCU.

Stoops said Evans will remain on medical scholarship, and he will have the opportunity to be a student-coach for the Sooners.

With Evans done, junior college transfer Emmanuel Beal, who started against TCU, figures to see a bigger role going forward.

The Sooners face rival Texas in Dallas this weekend.
