Dominique Whaley will get scholarship

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma walk-on running back Dominique Whaley might be out for the season with a fractured ankle. But when he returns, he'll be on scholarship.

After Monday's practice, coach Bob Stoops revealed that Whaley would be put on scholarship in December. Stoops said he broke the news to Whaley after the season-ending injury Saturday at Kansas State.

"This won't change that," Stoops said. "I didn't want him to be worried about it."

Whaley, who walked on to OU last year, leads the Sooners with 627 rushing yards, nine touchdowns and a 5.5 yards per carry average this season.

He had surgery Sunday morning and a pin inserted into his ankle, but is expected to make a full recovery and be ready before next season. In his place, Roy Finch likely will start this weekend against Texas A&M, but Brennan Clay and Brandon Williams are also expected to get carries.
