Indiana will reportedly name alumnus Glass new athletic director

Indiana will turn to a familiar face to be its new athletic director.

Multiple media reports said on Monday that Fred Glass, an IU alumnus and attorney, will be named to replace Rick Greenspan at a Tuesday morning news conference on campus.

Greenspan announced his resignation in June but was to stay on until Dec. 31, so it is not clear when Glass will take over.

The Indianapolis Star reported on Monday night that IU president Michael McRobbie made the final decision after a search committee presented him with three finalists.

Glass has been involved in many Indiana sporting ventures, including the construction of Lucas Oil Stadium and trying to secure a Super Bowl for Indianapolis. He was the chief of staff for former Indiana governor Evan Bayh.

Indiana has lost three scholarships and is still waiting to find out if the NCAA will impose further sanctions in the wake of former coach Kelvin Sampson's phone-call scandal.
