Miami and North Dakota men's hockey lined up against traditionally strong programs last week and each came away with a win and a tie, leaving them atop the Inside College Hockey Power Rankings for a second consecutive week.
Here's how the Inside College Hockey editors and staff rank the nation's top teams:
1. MIAMI
Senior forward Jarod Palmer, who had a goal and three assists in the RedHawks' win and tie at New Hampshire, needs two points to reach the 100-point mark for his career.
2. NORTH DAKOTA
Defenseman Chay Genoway entered his senior season with 16 career goals. He scored three against Minnesota this weekend, all on the power play.
3. VERMONT
No Viktor Stalberg, no problem. Five players have two goals each through three games and the top two scorers, Jack Downing and Brayden Irwin, have elevated their games after finishing 11th and 13th, respectively, on last year's team in scoring.
4. DENVER
Maybe the Pioneers' up-and-down nature thus far is connected to the Denver weather. Last weekend it snowed. Sunday, the city matched a record high temperature of 84 degrees.
5. BOSTON UNIVERSITY
The loss at UMass was the first road defeat of Kieran Millan's career.
6. MICHIGAN
The Wolverines' week features a rare Thursday night home date with Niagara and a Saturday road trip to Agganis Arena to face defending national champion Boston University.
7. CORNELL
Former Big Red star Matt Moulson has four goals already this season for the New York Islanders. His kid brother, Chris, seems to be following big bro's standard, as Chris sniped a goal during Cornell's red-white scrimmage.
8. PRINCETON
The Tigers have a scrimmage against Morrisville (N.Y.) State scheduled for Friday at Baker Rink. Delaware State apparently wasn't available.
9. NOTRE DAME
The Irish held a closed-door team meeting following Thursday's loss to Providence. Guess one of the items on the agenda was, "Hey, freshman goalie, don't allow any goals in your first career start tomorrow." Mike Johnson was thrilled to oblige.
10. NEBRASKA-OMAHA
A bye week is followed by a stretch of CCHA series that could allow the Mavs to get off to a fast start in the league -- Bowling Green, at Michigan State, Lake Superior, at Northern Michigan, Western Michigan, at Ferris State and at Alaska.
