TOPEKA, Kan. -- Former Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins faces a state ethics complaint. He is accused of accepting exercise equipment from a now-defunct company and receiving physical therapy from the university's sports medicine department in 2005.
The Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission made the complaint public Tuesday. Perkins could be fined up to $15,000.
Perkins retired in September. Earlier this year, he paid $5,000 for the use of the exercise equipment, which was removed from his home.
The complaint says Perkins violated a Kansas law that prevents state employees from accepting most gifts. The commission set a Nov. 16 hearing in case.
Perkins' attorney did not immediately return a call.
