Busy BCS Week

Oklahoma State made a huge splash as far as 2012 recruiting goes when it landed a verbal commitment from Brittney Martin (West Point, Utah/ Syracuse), ranked No. 18 in the class by ESPN HoopGurlz. Martin made a verbal pledge to Utah in August of 2010 but only a couple months later decided to reopen her recruitment. The 6-foot wing was a standout throughout the summer months with her Utah Flight summer team. Coming out of July, she announced that she would take official visits to UCLA, Oklahoma State, Cal, and Washington in early August but has decided to shut down her recruitment and make a pledge to Oklahoma State.

Martin's decision to pledge for Oklahoma State has major implications for head coach Kurt Budke and his staff. Martin will walk on campus as Oklahoma State's highest rated recruit in recent memory and in Martin they are getting a special piece. Martin is a scorer with a blue-collar feel to her game. She will outwork you to get a rebound and give as much effort on the defensive side of the ball as she will on the offensive side. Her energy and activity will be welcomed from Day One. This summer she proved that she is dedicated to working to improve her game as she showed more range on her perimeter jumper.

Another In-State Recruit for Mizzou

Class of 2012 prospect Lianna Doty (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood) has joined Maddie and Morgan Stock (Town and Country, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) as the latest in-state recruit to verbal to Missouri. In just her second season, head coach Robin Pingeton has made an impact recruiting inside the state. Doty, a 5-5 point guard, is going to give the Tigers a true floor general to lead them nightly. She pushes the tempo, makes good decisions and will lead both by example and vocally. Her game speaks volumes as she provides consistent effort and energy. Our staff saw her multiple times this summer - most recently at the Elite 32 Summer Jam Session II – and walked away impressed after each viewing.

Williamson to Pullman

Alexas Williamson (Chico Hills, Calif./Mater Dei) is headed to play her college basketball at Washington State. Williamson becomes the fourth member of the Cougars' 2012 recruiting class. So far, they have amassed a solid group as they continue to battle to ascend into the top third of the Pac-12 and the 5-9 guard's commitment does nothing but enhance the class. She plays her high-school ball for Mater Dei, which won the mythical national championship this past season. Williamson does a little of everything in the backcourt for Mater Dei helping to handle the rock as well as scoring at times from the perimeter. She finishes well in transition and is a willing defender on the other end.
