Rangers' Josh Hamilton hospitalized

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton was hospitalized Monday after being diagnosed with an early case of pneumonia, the team announced.

Hamilton, the American League MVP, is being treated at a local hospital and is expected to be released within the next 24 hours. He should be able to resume his conditioning and baseball activities within the next several days.

Hamilton had a .359 batting average with 32 home runs, 100 RBIs and eight stolen bases last season as the Rangers reached the World Series for the first time in franchise history.
