Owner Tom Hicks may not be able to keep control of the Texas Rangers after talks about a contract extension with television partner Fox Sports stalled recently, according to a Dallas Morning News report.
The story states, through sources, that Major League Baseball did not like the extension because it would mean giving the club a quick cash infusion, but could cause lower television revenue long-term.
Hicks had no comment when reached by ESPNDallas.com Thursday morning.
Hicks has received bids from prospective owners and a decision is expected within the month. He announced two weeks ago that he was trying to get investors to keep the team.
Hicks said former NFL quarterback Roger Staubach and former pitcher Nolan Ryan were part of his group, something Staubach acknowledged to ESPNDallas.com at that time.
Hicks also could join other ownership groups, such as those headed by former agent Dennis Gilbert or Pittsburgh attorney Chuck Greenberg, if his group can't achieve the financial package it needs or doesn't get approval by MLB.
