Anthony Spencer to have surgery

OXNARD, Calif. -- Dallas Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer said he'll have left knee surgery on Thursday in Dallas.

Spencer said he hopes to play in one preseason game. If not, he should be ready for the regular-season opener against the New York Giants.

"We have a lot of time," Spencer said after Tuesday's practice. "It's part of the game. At some point something like this could happen. I'm disappointed that I'm going to miss valuable reps."

Spencer aggravated a bone bruise during the conditioning run on Saturday and was unable to finish Sunday's practice. He had an MRI that confirmed the bone bruise.

On Monday, Spencer said the injury was concerning to him because it has troubled him since May. He rested during the June minicamp but had it flare up again Saturday.
