Bellomy joins ranks of top Texas QBs

DALLAS -- Russell Bellomy (Arlington, Texas/Martin) has quickly risen to near the top of the quarterback class in Texas. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed prospect caught the attention of college coaches after he completed 121 of 202 passes for 1,546 yards and 13 touchdowns against only three interceptions. He also rushed for 438 yards and six scores in 2009.

Bellomy, one of as many as seven Division I prospects in the 2011 class at Martin, picked his first offer from Florida International in March, with Michigan State quickly to follow. Since that time, three more programs have offered the all-district pick.

"My offers are Florida International, Michigan State, Purdue, UAB and Colorado State," Bellomy said.

With the word getting out about the five offers, many more schools are scheduled to visit Martin during the month of May, which means the leader of the Warriors team will likely have more options to choose from fairly soon.

"A lot of schools are going to visit this spring. With me, Danzel (Williams), Deryck (Gildon) and Devante, (Sparks), a lot of college coaches will be through. I know Iowa State Oregon, Boston College and South Florida are scheduled to come down to watch this spring," Bellomy said.

Kansas State, Kansas, Illinois, Tulsa and Vanderbilt are also showing interest and expected to make their way by the 5A school in May.

Bellomy has a pair of teammates who have already given oral commitments in running back Danzel Williams (Arlington, Texas/Martin) and outside linebacker Deryck Gildon (Arlington, Texas/Martin), while safety Devonta Sparks (Arlington, Texas/Martin) is considering double digit offers.

Martin enjoyed a breakthrough season of sorts in 2009 advancing to the third round of the playoffs finishing with an 8-5 record.
