Prosser inherits strong squad at Wake Forest

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

The coaching carousel continues to go round and round, baby!

Skip Prosser is the latest to move schools, going from Xavier to Wake Forest. Prosser's name kept coming up in the rumor mills over the last few years, and he has finally decided to move on to the ACC.

Skip Prosser
Skip Prosser had a 148-65 record in seven seasons at Xavier.
Can you blame Prosser for this change? Absolutely not! Think about the visibility in the ACC and the magical conference and you know Prosser had no choice. He will be battling Duke and North Carolina in his own state, and I am sure he is looking forward to the challenge.

The move also means Prosser can hook up against his former mentor, current Virginia coach Peter Gillen. Xavier also produced Bob Staak, who likewise ended up at Wake Forest several years ago.

The cupboard was not bare at Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons return Darius Songaila, Josh Howard, Broderick Hicks, Ervin Murray and Craig Dawson. Transfer Steve Lepore also joins the squad. They should be legitimate contenders for an NCAA berth from the ACC.

If a school can finish in the top five in the ACC, it can guarantee itself a journey to the NCAA Tournament. I can hear people screaming about what happened two years ago, when the conference sent fewer than five schools. But in the majority of years, the ACC will send more teams to the Big Dance.

Thinking about the Xavier job -- and it is an attractive opening -- I wonder if the administration would consider Leonard Hamilton. He would be a quality choice, and Xavier has loads of potential, with David West coming back plus young talent in the backcourt. West is one of the most underrated big men in America.

Another plus for the Musketeers' program is the new Cintas Center, a beautiful building. The fans in Cincinnati have a great love for basketball, and the new coach will have a lot to look forward to. Prosser left this program in great shape.

Stay tuned as Xavier tries to find a quality coach to keep its program solid.
