Stock soars for Baron, Lowe

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

April 29
Dick's Stock Watch identifies whose stock is up and whose is down over the past week across the world of sports.

Baron Davis has been a star for the Charlotte Hornets. He may not get as much publicity as he deserves, but what a performance he put on against the Orlando Magic in Game 3 on Saturday. Davis had a triple-double (33 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists) to lead the Hornets to the winner's circle.

Derek Lowe was booed in Boston last season as a reliever. But he was cheered big-time Saturday after throwing the first no-hitter for the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park since 1965. Lowe did a great job in keeping my Tampa Bay Devil Rays out of the hit column.

The Oakland Athletics are on fire, and manager Art Howe recently got a contract extension. Oakland really got the bats going against the Chicago White Sox this weekend, scoring 16 runs on Saturday and 10 more on Sunday to back the shutout pitching of Tim Hudson. The Sox had been hot with Kenny Lofton, Paul Konerko and company, but the A's silenced them.

Kyle McLaren of the Boston Bruins gets the top "stock down" vote for his vicious hit on Richard Zednik of the Montreal Canadiens. McLaren has been suspended for the rest of this series. I thought it was a terrible cheap shot.

The Minnesota Timberwolves were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round for the sixth straight season. Kevin Garnett and company fell to the Dallas Mavericks as Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Finley, Steve Nash and company had too much firepower. It was a rough weekend for Minnesota fans, as the Minnesota Twins lost three in a row to the Detroit Tigers.

The U.S. women's Federation Cup team was upset by Austria, and captain Billie Jean King (along with Jennifer Capriati) each get "stock down" for their disagreement which led to King leaving her off the team. That led to a forfeit, and that match cost the United States a victory overall.
