Utah has been placed on probation by the NCAA, and reading about some of the reasons for this decision made me believe some of the rules are ludicrous and absurd (the Utes can still take part in postseason tournaments).

I wish the NCAA spent more time chasing schools that really do cheat.

When a coach like Rick Majerus is penalized for having meals with players at a restaurant because he lives in a nearby hotel -- instead of a house situation like most other coaches -- that's a joke. If a player at another school had a slice of pizza at a coaches' residence, that would not have been a problem.
How absurd is it that a possible rules violation occurred when Majerus sat down with former Ute star Keith Van Horn to provide counseling because Van Horn's father had passed away. Give me a break!
Shouldn't a coach be a father figure in the time of need? Shouldn't he be there for his players during times of crisis? What in the world is wrong with that?
I wish the NCAA spent more time chasing schools that really do cheat. The institutions that buy players and cause academic fraud are the real bad guys out there.
Don't you think there are schools and boosters out there buying cars and giving gifts to players? There are people doing illegal things to woo recruits and take care of student-athletes.
Sitting down and counseling a player who lost a loved one? Come on ... where is the sanity? Where is the logic?
