A rare programming note: Inside my computing machine, something called a "motherboard" apparently is intent on going to the other side. Depending on when that happens and how long it takes me to buy a new machine and get it set up, my posting may well be less frequent than usual for a while. Thanks for your patience.

• Ah, the beautiful unpredictability of the game. It's not just that the Dominicans lost to the Dutch. It's that in almost every meaningful way, the Dominicans played better than the Dutch, out-hitting them 15-8 and out-walking them 15-3. Granted, the Dominicans did make six errors in the two games -- errors led directly to both losses -- but do you know how hard it is to lose two games while nearly tripling your opponents' hits and walks?

• Newsday's Ken Davidoff takes down the A-Rod naysayers. Utterly devastating.

• Edwin Jackson = Bob Gibson? Naaaahhhhh.

• Eric Walker writes about steroids, and MGL takes him to task. I love it when smart people argue!

• Wow. After seeing this, I'm going to have a really hard time maintaining my stance that Omar Vizquel doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame.

• I think this Jonah Keri kid might have a real future in this business.

• So what do you think about Topps' new 3-D baseball cards? I think it's a cool idea, but probably just a way station to something really cool.

• Last season, Pablo Sandoval swung at 54 percent of the pitches he saw that were outside the strike zone. The kid's going to be good, probably. But, jeez.
