All I can say is WOW!
The Louisville-Notre Dame game on Saturday night was simply incredible. It was a night that anyone who attended will never forget.
I'll be honest, I did not think the Irish had any shot late in regulation. I felt it was tucked away and lock city for the Cardinals. Louisville led by seven with less than a minute left. Then, it was the Jerian Grant show.
Are you kidding me? He hit three trifectas, plus a driving basket which ended up as a three-point play following a foul. Suddenly, we were going into overtime.
The Cardinals certainly had opportunities to put the game away on the foul line, but it did not happen.
Notre Dame had a bunch of kids that did not think they had a shot. They played with so much passion and emotion, showing guts until it ended with jubilation. It was one overtime after another, and then pandemonium.
There were other heroes, like Garrick Sherman, who came off the bench in overtime and finished with 17 big points, including a clutch tip-in which further extended the game. Sherman was sensational and quite a story since he was Mr. Pine for a number of recent games.
Pat Connaughton showed heart by playing 56 minutes. He suffered an ankle injury late in the first half but came back and gave it his all.
I really believe this was the biggest win for Mike Brey at Notre Dame. It was like winning a championship the way that the players and fans reacted.
Brey said after the game it was only going to count as one Big East win. My friends, I do not know how a game like this could ever be duplicated.
All night, the coach was smiling and laughing. He had a good reason to.
