Mangold's high school team loses in state final

Holley Mangold's dream season came up a single point shy of perfection Saturday.

Her Archbishop Alter High School football team fell to Steubenville 34-33 in the Ohio Division III championship game. Alter finished the season 14-1.

Holley, a guard who is the younger sister of New York Jets rookie center Nick Mangold, entered the game for several point-after attempts.

Alter trailed Steubenville 34-13 but scored three consecutive touchdowns to make it 34-33 in the fourth quarter. Alter's potential equalizing extra point, however, was blocked.

"Too little, too late," said Vern Mangold, Holley's father. "But the good news for all of us around Holley is that she's only a junior."

After Holley's story appeared on ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown," it was repeated on ESPN's "Cold Pizza" on Thursday and on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Friday. "Sunday NFL Countdown" (11 a.m.-1 p.m. ET) will feature an update on Holley's story this week.
