Since preparing for 2005's "Longest Yard" movie, Nelly has been a workout fiend. Growing up "super skinny" in St. Louis, Nelly knew he'd have to get in shape for the movie which starred Adam Sandler and Chris Rock. So five years later, Nelly is still in shape and releasing a celebrity workout video.
"When I got the movie role, I thought it would be a great excuse to get into better shape," said the 35-year-old rapper, actor and entrepreneur. "When it started changing my body, it became addictive for me. It's now just part of my lifestyle. I have to work out."
Nelly is one of the many celebrities and athletes who will be part of the fitness series, which begins this fall. The series will include the NBA's Carmelo Anthony and NFL's Chad Ochocinco.
"I know there are a lot of exercise videos out there, but this one is different because it's celebrities and athletes in their prime," said Nelly, who stopped by ESPN's campus Monday. "We will have music and behind-the-scenes looks for people to get into shape."
Nelly has sold more than 20 million CDs since he came on the scene in 2000. In November, he's set to release his latest -- 5.0 -- that harkens back to the old Nelly sound of a more laid-back lifestyle. The name is an homage to the old Ford Mustang.
"I've grown a lot in the past few years. Things that I do now are trying to be more inspiring," Nelly said. "I'm a country boy who has come a long way to make it. I'm just trying to give back."
