Nats mania!
Hop the bandwagon (unlimited seats!). Sweep D-Backs, 5-game W-streak, first in NL East, draw more fans for 3 games than the Expos did for a dozen.

The Lead Item
Two Words For You:
LEBRON.  CHOKES.

Maybe the Cavs should trade LeBron, instead of listening to more of the LeBron-leaving rumors.

Because the All-LeBron strategy ain't working.

Despite LeBron's MVP efforts (way too many 48-minute games, only the fifth player to average 25-7-7 in a season), the Cavs have collapsed.

If he could opt out of his contract now, I bet he'd bolt, frustrated by the direction of a team that three months ago was a playoff lock.

But coaching is a concern, new ownership is oblivious and management is a mess.

Help on the way? Hardly. Given the Cavs' collapse, free agents will think twice before signing (even local guys like Michael Redd).

And don't look toward the draft; the Cavs aren't bad enough to escape the Lottery's talent twilight zone. (Think early '90s Bullets. Yikes!)

LeBron is arguably the most talented NBA player EVER ...

... But right now he's nothing more than on track to become "the Best Player to Never Make the Playoffs."

That's no title to savor.

NBA Playoff Races
East: Cavs out?! Now tied with Nets for 8th with 2 G to play (and NJ holds tie-breaker). Sixers 1 GA of both.

West: Griz clinch, field set: Race for 5-6-7? HOU and SAC tied (edge to HOU), DEN is 1 GB both. That could change.

Monday intrigue: DEN at PHX! Nuggets get one more shot at only other team to beat them in the last two months besides Houston (Saturday).

Yankees Panic
If 2004 was about Buster Olney's explanation of "The Last Night of the Yankees Dynasty," then in 2005, I'd like to spark "The First Day of the Yankees Sucking."

From the Boss himself:

"Enough is enough. I am bitterly disappointed, as I am sure all Yankee fans are, by the lack of

WHO'S GOT THE MOMENTUM ...
Wily Mo Pena: New Joe Randa? 3 RBI, 500-ft HR in Reds W
Celtics: Clinch first Atlantic Division title since '92
Ben Sheets: 4yr/$38m deal is biggest in Brewers history
... AND WHO'S GOT NO MO'
Marion Jones: Finishes LAST in her comeback race at 400m
Magglio Ordonez: He's no Vlad '05; out 4-6 weeks (hernia)

performance by our team. It is unbelievable to me that the highest-paid team in baseball would start the season in such a deep funk.

"They are not playing like true Yankees. They have the talent to win and they are not winning. I expect Joe Torre, his complete coaching staff and the team to turn this around." No interpretation necessary.

Two games vs. Tampa could help, starting today. But two games at first-place Toronto follow. (OK: Who's NOT rooting for more losing?)

MLB Weekend
"Complete" domination: Blown-saves epidemic? So what! Meet the Marlins, whose pitchers have thrown five complete games already, following A.J. Burnett's second on Sunday.

It's phenomenal now, but given the injury histories of Burnett and Josh Beckett (along inconsistency from Dontrelle Willis), what's the over-under on the day the arms all fall off?

More pitching: Dream Weaver blanks Padres in 6-0 LA W (how 'bout that 9-2 start, DePo haters?); Braves 'pen still stinks, blows lead to Phillies in 10-inning loss (Smoltz lost again, too).

T'wolves Bounces
The T'wolves should trade KG: From West finals in '04 to not even making the playoffs in '05? Rebuilding time has come.

This summer, Cassell and Spree are as good as gone; Wally would love a trade, too. What a perfect time to dismantle the entire losing structure.

Why not listen to KG offers? How about for Kobe, straight up? Or for Brand, Maggette and Livingston? What do the T'wolves have to lose?

Afraid of fan backlash? Remember: Rebuilding is better than mediocrity.

Patriots Day
Are fans across the nation sick of more too-precious New England sports traditions?

Too bad: But that's no reason to take it out on the hardy thousands who will run the Boston Marathon, including Curt Schilling's wife, Shonda.

Meanwhile, Curt is starting the traditional 11:05 a.m. Sox game at Fenway, vs. Toronto. (Of the couple, he's got the tougher challenge.)

Free Rosie Ruiz!

Marion Jones:
Didn't she used to be the best female athlete on the planet? Now she's finishing LAST in minor track events, like she did in Cali on Sunday.

Only analysis to make about the talk that the NBA might put its 2007 All-Star Game in Las Vegas: Best. Weekend. Ever.

Good times in South Carolina: Nearly 40,000 pack the football stadium to see Steve Spurrier's spring-practice finale. (Team didn't look too great.)

Jordan Classic: I'm against an NBA age limit, but FOR prep-to-pro wannabes using common sense. (Blatche? So-so ... Junior Oden? Declare NOW!)
