Pay Manny ... or help out the kids?

Los Angeles Dodgers president Jamie McCourt recently said, "If you bring somebody in to play and pay them, pick a number, $30 million, does that seem a little weird to you? That's what we're trying to figure out. We're really trying to see it through the eyes of our fans. We're really trying to understand, would they rather have the 50 fields?"

McCourt was referring to the club's charitable foundation's efforts to help build 42 youth baseball fields around Southern California.

Apparently, she also was asking Dodgers fans to choose: Would they rather sign a big-name free agent -- oh, you know, say, Manny Ramirez -- or spend that money on Little League fields?

Now, we applaud the Dodgers' effort to support their community. And, if the two dollar amounts really are related, we can only imagine what these Little League fields will look like if the Dodgers decide not to offer Manny a mega-deal. Just imagine the possibilities:
