On the list because she's the 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist; set the world record of 15-9 1/4 in 2001, still the second-highest vault ever; and because vaulting combines many "ultimate" traits -- speed, strength, flexibility, mental toughness, fearlessness, and endurance.
On the list because the 15-year-old from Louisiana took silver at last year's World Championships, despite competing with a broken elbow. And she's off to a hot start in 2004, winning all four individual events at the America Cup while taking the all-around title.
