  • Page 2 has crowned its Hottest Female Athlete for 2004 -- and it isn't 2002 champion Anna Kournikova or 2003 winner Jennie Finch. Nope, the new woman on the throne is soccer star Heather Mitts, a defender for the U.S. National Team and the Philadelphia Charge of the WUSA.

After one week of competition, featuring nearly 1.2 million votes, Mitts emerged as the third different winner in the three years of Page 2's polling. Mitts garnered 30 percent of the more than 268,000 votes cast in the final to edge out figure skater Jamie Salé, snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler, Kournikova and Finch, who was given a bye into the final round because of her status as defending champion.

"I was completely shocked that I won," Mitts told Page 2 in 10 Burning Questions after her victory. "I figured I'd be lucky to finish in the top five, no joke."

The competition started with 24 female athletes, and voting is currently open in the 24-man field for 2004's Hottest Male Athlete.
