Phillies fans were dancing, hugging, celebrating, laughing and maybe even crying after their team won the World Series on Wednesday night.

As they should have been. It was their year. It was an October that belonged to Cole Hamels and Brad Lidge and Shane Victorino and Chase Utley and Ryan Howard and, yes, Eric Bruntlett and Pedro Feliz and Carlos Ruiz and a 45-year-old left-hander who, in his first major league game 22 years ago, faced a Phillies lineup that included Rick Schu, Juan Samuel, Mike Schmidt, Von Hayes, Steve Jeltz and Steve Carlton. (Jamie Moyer beat Carlton that day, by the way).

As for the rest of us, the whole postseason was kind of a dud. Only one series went the maximum number of games. For the fifth straight year, the World Series ended in five or fewer games. It was cold and wet. Signature moments seemed sparse.

So how good an October was it? We went back and ranked all the postseasons since wild-card play began in 1995. We started by giving one point for each game played (2008 saw 31 of a possible 41 games played), then awarded and subtracted points for various memorable moments, classic games and exciting World Series to arrive at a final score.
