Shipsterns Bluff, Tasmania

From shallow sharp reefs to shark-infested waters, surfing even normal-sized waves can be a risky endeavor. Add a few 50-footers into the mix, and surfing can be downright terrifying. Here are 10 of the scariest waves in the world.

By far one of the most dangerous surf spots in the world, Shipsterns Bluff is as far out there as you can get. Located on the southern end of Tasmania, it's a long hike or boat ride just to get to the spot, then there's the powerful southern ocean swell and great white sharks to reckon with. And if that isn't enough of a deterrent, the wave itself stair-steps and morphs on a dry reef. Have fun.
