THINGS TO CARE ABOUT

It's about to get real in the NFL ... Teams are gearing up for training camp, the time of year when jobs are won and lost on a remote field in blazing heat. There's no shortage of questions for teams going into this year's camps. Can the Patriots move on from Rob Gronkowski? Is Todd Gurley the answer for the Rams? Will Andrew Luck finally make the leap to MVP? We've got all the answers and more in our comprehensive training camp preview. Read More

Talk amongst yourselves ... The Warriors aren't the odds-on favorites in the NBA anymore, which means things are wide-open in the league for the first time in years. MLB trade deadline, you good? We're one week away from the trade deadline, and almost nothing has happened. If you want to scream as you anxiously await for your team to make a move, you are not alone. Teams have not struck a single player-for-player deal. Why, baseball gods, why? L.A. THEIR WAY

Destined for each other ... Hey, some things are just written in the stars. They're back home, with a Hall of Fame coach and a franchise incredibly hungry for its first taste of a title. To make things even better for a low-profile guy such as Kawhi? There just so happens to be another Staples Center tenant with way more trophies and banners to soak up all that spotlight -- and a couple of hoopers you might have heard of before. Whether the new Clips stars want to acknowledge it or not, the battle for L.A. is undoubtedly on. Read More

OVERHEARD

"If you come to an agreement with the team that, 'Hey, it's probably best for us to part ways,' that's one thing. But the Davis stuff was really kind of groundbreaking -- and hopefully not a trend because it's bad for the league."

REMEMBER WHEN?

On this date in 1966, Ted Williams, perhaps the greatest hitter of all time, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Splendid Splinter's speech was only 562 words, but he used 36 of them to advocate for African-American players who had not yet been inducted, saying, "I hope that one day Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson will be voted into the Hall of Fame as symbols of the great Negro players who are not here only because they weren't given the chance."
