Quint Kessenich, a member of Johns Hopkins University's 1987 NCAA Lacrosse Championship
team, has joined ESPNU exclusively as a commentator for a variety of events on the new college
sports network, it was announced today by Burke Magnus, vice president and general manager, ESPNU.
His responsibilities will include working on television's most extensive college lacrosse schedule —
featuring regular-season action and the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship.
Kessenich, who has called 10 NCAA Lacrosse finals on ESPN and ESPN2, will also serve as a
play-by-play commentator for ESPNU's college basketball coverage and a reporter for college
football and the NCAA Wrestling Championship on ESPNU. He will also contribute to ESPNU content
distributed across the many ESPN platforms.
"Every day across the country, more and more student-athletes are picking up sticks,"
said Kessenich. "I am excited to join the ESPNU family since the network will give us the
opportunity to showcase the game in its best form on a truly national level."
Magnus added: "Quint is a rising star whose dedication and passion for college sports is
perfectly suited for ESPNU. His knowledge of lacrosse, one of several college sports featured
prominently on ESPNU, will be a tremendous asset to our coverage."
A four-time All American and 1990 graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Kessenich's television
career has also included analysis for ESPN2's Major League Lacrosse (MLL) games and Big Ten
college football for ESPN Regional Television. He has also worked on horse racing coverage.
In 2004, he covered college wrestling, including serving as a reporter for the NCAA Wrestling
Championship on ESPN.
ESPNU
The ESPNU schedule will feature approximately 300 live events (regular-season and championships) in
the network's first year. Action will include a variety of top football and men's and women's basketball
mixed with baseball, softball, volleyball, lacrosse, ice hockey, wrestling and more. ESPNU will
also offer comprehensive studio programming, replays of ABC Sports, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Regional
Television games, plus specials and more.
ESPNU has secured distribution agreements with DIRECTV, Adelphia, Mediacom, several smaller affiliates
and is close to distribution agreements with others. The 24-hour television network is the key
component of the multi-media ESPNU initiative that will deliver college sports content across ESPN's
family of services, such as ESPN.com, ESPN The Magazine, ESPN Mobile (wireless), ESPN Radio, ESPN Interactive,
ESPN360 (broadband), merchandising and more.
Original Dream Job winner Mike Hall serves as ESPNU's signature anchor, hosting the majority of
the network's studio programming from Charlotte, N.C., headquarters of ESPN Regional Television (ERT),
which handles production responsibilities for ESPNU.
