Serena Williams accepted her Sportsperson of the Year award from Sports Illustrated on Tuesday night at a fancy gala in New York.
She delivered a touching speech, which managed to mix emotional thank yous with funny anecdotes -- including why she made winning the US Open her first goal and not, say, Wimbledon. And, she even addressed the elephant, er horse, in the room. After some people argued that American Pharaoh should have won the honor, Serena hilariously remarked, "I've lived through tragedies, and controversies ... and horses."
Watch the full speech below. It's definitely worth the 7 minutes and 29 seconds of your time.
