It was in the early 2000s at a National Association of Black Journalists conference. I was a local reporter in Florida, but was walking around the conference, job hunting. I saw this tall, beautiful woman working at the ESPN booth. I'd seen her often on "SportsCenter" and immediately wanted to know more about her.
Fast forward today, and Sage Steele is now my colleague. We've never really had a heart-to-heart about being a woman in sports, or about how it wasn't easy for us to learn about one another in our fast-paced worlds.
This "Be Honest" touches on life, love and basketball. (Had to get that reference in!) As Sage continues to get mighty in her field, she's been able to accept her role, grow from her experiences and stay focused on her mission.
