Team SoloMid will promote Academy support Erik "Treatz" Wessén to their starting League of Legends Championship Series roster for Week 6 games against 100 Thieves and FlyQuest on Friday and Saturday, the team announced Wednesday.
Treatz will slot in the place previously held by Vincent "Biofrost" Wang, who will play for Team SoloMid Academy on Thursday and Friday in their games vs. the Academy rosters of 100 Thieves and FlyQuest.
The move comes after an 0-2 week for Team SoloMid in Week 5, where they lost to both first-place Cloud9 and Immortals, who are tied for last in the LCS with Dignitas. Team SoloMid hold the third overall position but have become the center of lots of criticism among fans after making the largest swing of the mid-season: buying out AD carry Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng from Team Liquid, marking the return of the veteran star AD carry to his former team. Expectations for Team SoloMid have been enormously high all season.
Team SoloMid Academy have found success within the Academy league, where they comfortably hold first place. Treatz, a European support that has been the centerpiece of the Team SoloMid Academy squad since being signed prior to the 2019 season, has emerged as one of the best players in Academy. This weekend will be his debut in a Tier 1 league in any of the four major regions. He previously played for Dark Passage in the Turkish Championship League but has never competed in the LCS or the League European Championship.
Team SoloMid had an underwhelming spring, finishing fifth in the regular season and fourth in the playoffs.
One of the most popular and successful teams in North American League of Legends history, the team signed franchise mid laner Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg to a large multi-year deal in October, which also granted him a small equity percentage in the team. TSM also brought back Biofrost in a trade with Counter Logic Gaming for Andy "Smoothie" Ta and signed former Splyce AD carry Kasper "Kobbe" Kobberup and former OpTic Gaming jungler Joshua "Dardoch" Hartnett.
After its spring finish, the team sold off contract rights for Kobbe to Misfits and Dardoch to Dignitas while picking up Doublelift. TSM promoted Academy jungler Mingyi "Spica" Lu, who played about half a split with Team SoloMid's main roster in 2019.
