ESPN.com staff

LOS ANGELES -- You won't be able to see The ESPYS until Sunday night, July 16 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. But your favorite Show host, Buzzmaster, was backstage on Wed., July 12 to capture all the goings on behind the scenes.
David Ortiz
And the ESPY goes to ...

This year over 12 million votes were cast by you the fans to help determine the best of the best from the past year in sports. All the biggest names from every sport under the sun will make their way into the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood (yes, the place where they do American Idol) to watch host Lance Armstrong oversee the festivites and hand out some hardware to the deserving athletes that received the majority of your votes.

Use the form below to submit your ESPY questions and comments and then join Buzzmaster from backstage at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, July 12!

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (11:24 AM ET ) Helloooooooo from La La Land! Surprisingly, I haven't been discovered by a talent agent yet but I've only been here 48 hours. So there is still time. Does everyone have ESPY fever? The street in front of the Kodak is blocked off, the red carpet is out, there are people in dark suits and walkie talkies all over the place, everyone has some kind of plastic laminated card around their neck .. that can only mean one thing .. it's time to hand out awards! I'll be live at 8 ET to give you the scoop from the scene since you can't see it on TV until Sunday. By the way, do you think you can take In 'n Out inside the Kodak Theatre? Talk to you soon!

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:30 PM ET ) Helloooooo again! It is H - O - T HOT here! The red carpet is about 1,000 degrees. The celebs and athletes are starting to roll in. Should be fun. I'm roaming around the scene doing my best to give you the ESPY flavor .. send your best comments and questions and we'll get started here soon!

Justin (LA): Take Fat Burger into Kodak, it's classier.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:33 PM ET ) Take that back!

Jamaal, NY: Who's the host?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:37 PM ET ) Lance Armstrong! He has some big shoes to fill but if you can win 7 Tour de France races you can host an awards show.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:40 PM ET ) The NFL is in full force on the red carpet right now with the Steelers holding court and Shaun Alexander making the rounds. And the rookie ... Reggie Bush ... is generating quite the squeals from the crowd. Reggie just won Best College Athlete and said ''This is better than the Heisman. It's skinnier and not as heavy.'' Funny guy!

Tom (Tampa,FL): Can I watch this on ESPNEWS?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:42 PM ET ) Yes, turn on NEWS for the pre-ESPY show.

Mike (Henrietta): Vince Young has Reggie any day

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:43 PM ET ) Matt Leinart is about to present the award for Best Comeback Player here on the red carpet .. and it goes to ... Tedy Bruschi! Big surprise there, huh?

Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ): As a paid host yourself, where would you rank ESPYs on the host-aspiration chart?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:45 PM ET ) Above the Soap Opera Awards and below the MTV Music Awards.

Gavin (Seattle): Are the refs still helping the Steelers across the turf?

Jonathan (WI): i found it it's on ESPNEWS yay!!!!!

Jim, NC: Will it be on the radio?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:46 PM ET ) I'm your radio tonight. Sorry for the static. Now turn it up!

Keith Dayton, Ohio: Refs are too busy pulling the Steelers from Carson Palmer...

Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ): uh, i'm getting 4 qtrs, but it says its coming on at 8. close enough.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:48 PM ET ) Whoops .. a red carpet interviewer just called Julius Jones Julius Erving.

Rob (Mt. Pocono,PA): anyone watching the Greatest World Series Team on Classic?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:49 PM ET ) Cast your vote right now on the front page of .com! 1,000,000 votes already! Make it 1,000,001!

Dan (Milwaukee): I can't find the ESPYs on any channel. Is it being taped or being shown tonight?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:52 PM ET ) Will air on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ): of course, supernova is coming on at 8 too. espys red-carpet preview or supernova...either way, I'm sure I'll be a much better person for it.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:57 PM ET ) The red carpet is getting really packed now. We're about 1 hour from showtime. Looks like everyone is arriving in cars. We need someone to step it up and arrive in a tank or something. I hope somebody is taking notes.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:58 PM ET ) DWade is racking up the style points right now. By the way, be sure to check ESPYS.TV tonight and tomorroand ESPN.com's Page 2 the rest of the week for results and all kinds of good ESPY stuff.

Ed (Cotati, CA): I really hope the autistic kid who dropped 20 in a game wins tonight. Any sighting of him yet Buzz?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (7:59 PM ET ) Not yet, but pretty sure he is in the house.

Ron (Baltimore, MD): WILL James Blake win comeback player of the year?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:00 PM ET ) Tedy Bruschi already claimed that award earlier.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:02 PM ET ) Did I mention it is HOT? Wow. If I were a celeb I think I would be giving one word answers and make a beeline down the carpet towards the air conditioning.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:04 PM ET ) Janet Jackson in the house! She's a presenter. She says she doesn't like to speak in front of big crowds. Hmm.. She also just said her brothers are very athletic. Apparently they played baseball and had scouts interested. OK.

Gilbert (Miami): Was Wade carrying Shaq through the red carpet?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:06 PM ET ) I'm gonna tell Shaq you said that.

Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ): cmon, help out yer boy george lopez and get him a comb.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:09 PM ET ) Venus Williams' hair is very shiny.

Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ): shaqs gunna get all icy-hot when he hears that. i don't know what that means, but its kinda gross.

Jeff Schmidt (Hollywood, CA): The big black drape is blocking my view from the building across the street. Can you see about having it taken down? Thanks!

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:11 PM ET ) I'll get right on that!

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:13 PM ET ) T.O. is on the red carpet talking to The Black Widow. He seems to have gone through a ''how to give non-interesting answers that won't get you in trouble" course. I think he got an A but I'm not sure.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:15 PM ET ) Now we're talkin' .. Carmen Electra has arrived.

Travis (Indiana State): Any chance Leinart and is going to bring Hilton to the show?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:19 PM ET ) She wasn't with him earlier. He's probably smarter than that. If he brings her to the ESPYs, he'll never hear the end of it.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:20 PM ET ) Those loud shreiks can mean only one thing .. Kobe Bryant has hit the red carpet.

Paris (Hollywood, CA): NOPE!

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:22 PM ET ) Whoa! Jack Bauer is in the house! Good to know we are all safe.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:24 PM ET ) He's talking hockey. Ugh. Can't we ask him how he gets around L.A. so fast? I'd love to know the answer to that question.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:25 PM ET ) Stu Scott just busted out the bathroom and cell phone questions .. apparently he goes to the bathroom when they cut away to CTU and he's still trying to find out what battery is in his cell phone so he can get another one.

Jeff (Los Angeles): Any chance of a wardrobe malfunction? Is it overkill on the security still?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:28 PM ET ) If you tried to sneak on the red carpet right now I think somebody would pummel you with a mike stand. There is always hope for a wardrobe malfunction. There are cameras everywhere so if it happens, it won't get by us!

Andrew (Columbus, OH): Why isn't this on live? It would make for a MUCH better show!

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:31 PM ET ) Live TV isn't always what it is cracked up to be. It's gonna be a good show on Sunday, trust the Buzz.

Iron Butter ( Rochester NY): J Mac's got Kobe all day, best sports moment of the year by far baby.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:32 PM ET ) Ben Stiller has arrived. Or more importantly, his wife Christine Taylor has arrived.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:35 PM ET ) Kobe says JMac is the ''perfect story''. He said watching it made him want to hit the gym and practice even more. He also says the only way he's scoring 100 is on a video game.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:37 PM ET ) OK, here is an update on just some of the ladies in attendance tonight .. Mariah Carey, Rosario Dawson, Carmen Electra, Janet Jackson, Ashley Judd, Danica Patrick, Brandy and Christie Taylor.

Mat (Scottsdale, AZ): but is Tanith Belbin there?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:43 PM ET ) Unfortunately, no. Very disappointing.

Mat (Scottsdale, AZ): what about your girl Sharapova? You've already laid the ground work in CT when you were rapping to her about her dog...

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:44 PM ET ) Again, no. That's good though. We need our space. I think she was falling for me. At least that's what I tell myself.

Travis (Indiana State): How long are you going to be chatting with us Buzz?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:45 PM ET ) I'll be here until Lance Armstrong say ''goodnight".

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:46 PM ET ) Some guy named Speedy is warming up the crowd right now. We're getting close to showtime.

Shawna (New York, NY): Do we get the play-by-play or is that classified until it airs?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (8:48 PM ET ) I've been given the green light to let if fly. So if you don't want to know who wins, you should log off now. But I won't give it all away. You'll have to tune in on Sunday night.

Ken (Indianapolis, IN): Speaking of Armstrong, do you think he is going to make fun of the doping scandals in this year's tour, during the show?

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (9:03 PM ET ) They are kicking off the show with the montage of all the great athletes and people we lost over the past year. If this doesn't give you goosebumps then you should check your pulse.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (9:04 PM ET ) Tuna fish sandwiches here backstage. Pretty yummy. Nice change of pace from In 'n Out for almost every meal.

Mat (Scottsdale, AZ): RIP Kirby Puckett

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (9:05 PM ET ) Next up is a montage of great moments. This is worth tuning in for alone.

Jake (Harrisburg, PA): If Rowand's face-plant grab doesn't get the play of the year, there is no justice.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (9:08 PM ET ) Wow .. be sure to set your TIVO's for this moments montage .. good stuff.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (9:09 PM ET ) Lance Armstrong has just kicked off the show!

randy (alabama): rowand's catch was very gutsy but no way it was better than "the catch" by prothro.

Mike (Ithaca): I still don't understand how Ovechkin's "The Goal" wasn't among the finalists. That blew me away.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (9:26 PM ET ) Sorry folks .. it's a zoo backstage and we lost our connection there for a bit .. pirating somebody's wireless right now .. and the show goes on ..

SportsNation Buzzmaster: (9:27 PM ET ) While I was away, Shaun Alexander won Best Record Breaking Performance and Vince Young won Best Championship Performance.
