Macdonald returns to podium

August 29, 1999

San Diego local Andy MacDonald skated to a strong second place finish in the skateboard vert finals in the final day of competition in Beaverton, Oregon. Despite cloudy skies and drizzle, Macdonald once again lived up to his reputation as one of the best vert skateboarders around.

"With the rain delay changing the format a bit, we all just had to go for it," said Macdonald, who now has six career B3 medals. "It was the triple combination in my second run that really pulled me through."

Tas Pappas of Melbourne, Australia brought home the gold with two impressive runs while Chris Gentry of Costa Mesa, Calif. grabbed the bronze.

On Saturday, MacDonald claimed the bronze in the skateboard street competition at the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District. "The street course had a lot of new elements in it," MacDonald said. "It was a really nice change because it made the competition much more challenging." Dan Pageau of Montreal, Canada grabbed the gold and Chad Vogt of Seattle, Wash. claimed his first B3 medal with a stunning second place finish.

ESPN and ESPN2 will combine to produce more than 14 hours of original programming including 29.5 hours of re-airs and encore presentations.
